MEMORANDUM FOR: Eagle Scout Candidates, Troop 420

FROM:  David Harling, Troop Committee Chairman, BSA Troop 420

SUBJECT:  Eagle Application Written References

This memorandum is being furnished to restate and update the guidance concerning Eagle references.  We are and have been using a form recommendation (copy attached).  Feel free to produce your own copies from either of these files.  A minimum of three written references, other than Parent /Guardian, must be submitted.  More can be submitted.

At least one of the written references must be from the “Religious” reference listed on the application.  Following is a quote from the “Guide to Advancement 2013’ paragraph 9.0.1.3 concerning Eagle application references:

“3.  References:  Must list all six (five if not employed).  If not affiliated with an organized religion, then the parent or guardian provides this reference.”

The Scout should furnish their references a copy of the form and a stamped pre-addressed envelope to be mailed to the Scoutmaster or his designee.  The return address should be that of the Scout so that the Eagle Scout Board of Review will know who the references are for.  PLEASE BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RECOMMENDATION FORM.  The completed forms are to be mailed direct to the Eagle Scout Board of Review by the person providing the recommendation.  The recommendation forms received must be from among those listed on the Eagle application.
